Eligibility:

Official Rules

  • Entries must be fully completed or may be void
  • Only one file can be uploaded per entry
  • Entrants agree to be bound by the official rules
  • Prizes unclaimed within three months after the close of the contest will be awarded to the next runner up
  • Entrants must be 18 years old or older, void where prohibited by law
  • Participants may request official rules by mail
  • AVerMedia is not responsible for lost entries or injuries sustained from prizes

Lesson plans must include a document camera as the primary demonstration tool in the lesson itself, and be directly related to one of the above subjects. Integrating document cameras with other technologies may also be described (e.g. interactive whiteboards, automated response systems, computers, etc).

  • NCSS membership is required.
  • Full-time social studies teacher or social studies teacher educators currently engaged with K-12 students.
  • "Reach for the Stars" projects that represent excellence and innovation in social studies education and have the potential of serving as a model for other teachers.

Purpose: The purpose of the $2,500 grant is to help a social studies educator make his or her dream of innovative social studies a reality. Grants will be given to assist classroom teachers in: 1) developing and implementing imaginative, innovative, and illustrative social studies teaching strategies; and 2) supporting student implementation of innovative social studies, citizenship projects, field experiences, and community connections.

Program: Prospective Secondary Teacher Course Work Scholarships
Eligibility: A person currently completing his/her sophomore year of college, scheduling for full-time study at a four- or five-year college or university in the next academic year, and pursuing a career goal of becoming a certified teacher of secondary school mathematics. Applicants must be student members of NCTM.

Purpose:

The purpose of this scholarship is to provide financial support to college students preparing for teaching secondary school mathematics. For 2008-2009, one scholarship, with a maximum value of $10,000, will be awarded to a person currently completing their sophomore year of college, scheduling for full-time study at a four- or five-year college or university in the next academic year, and pursuing a career goal of becoming a certified teacher of secondary school mathematics. These scholarships are named in recognition of the outstanding contributions to mathematics education made by professors Frank Demana and Bert K. Waits of the Ohio State University.

Jordan Fundamentals Grant Programs

Program: Jordan Fundamentals Grant Programs
Eligibility: Applicants must be public school teachers or paraprofessionals working with students in grades 1 through 12. Jordan Fundamentals will consider grants in all 50 States and the District of Columbia

Purpose:

Each year, a significant number of projects will be funded as "Innovation Grants" with individual teacher approaches that attempt to engage students in school using either experimental or traditional strategies effectively. These projects should incorporate a number of critical components:

Address at least one or more of the grant Program Objectives

Provide multiple examples of how the program will be Effective

Address specific student needs

Will rely on at least one specific Brand Truth's as guiding principles

Inspiration Grants, averaging $10,000, will be awarded to teams of teachers to support scaling-up the implementation of approaches, originally developed with Innovation Grants. Requests larger than $10,000 for Innovation Grants will be considered if the proposal scope is appropriately in alignment with the requested amount. These projects should incorporate a number of critical components:

  • Projects should demonstrate the potential for being Effective, Replicable and Sustainable
  • Address at least two or more of the grant Program Objectives
  • Address specific student needs
  • Will rely on at least two of the Brand Truth's as guiding principles
